High Red – 2800K
The High Light “High Red” board is a full-spectrum LED flowering board that is also an excellent red light supplement for existing HID grow lamps.
We recommend these horticultural LED boards for growers who are already running UV supplemental lights, such as metal halide (MH), ceramic metal halide (CMH) or fluorescent bulbs and want a red boost for bigger yields and lower power consumption.
The High Red board is a highly efficient source of Red (600-650nm), Deep Red (650-700nm) and Far Red (700+nm) light, with a high colour rendering index (CRI95).
This means the LED board shows plants in a “truer” light than other grow bulbs, which makes it easier to spot nutrient deficiencies and other issues.
While the High Red boards have a heavy red spectrum for increased flowering performance, they emit a warm white light in the 2700-2800K colour temperature range. This is the result of mixing 300 Nichia 757 V3-F1 series CRI90 2700K mid-power LEDs with 150 Nichia Optisolis CRI97 2700K mid-power LEDs, giving the board an overall efficiency of 2.46 umol/j at 1.5A.
These boards are an ideal compliment for CMH grow lights or as stand-alone LED flowering boards. We do not recommend them for growth stages or leafy greens due to the high amount of red, which may lead to stretch and thinner leaf tissue (caused by the “shade avoidance response” in plants).
The extra blue and UV light emitted by MH, CMH and fluorescent bulbs will offset shade avoidance when placed together with our High Red boards. This is why we suggest combining them to form a complete spectrum very similar to sunlight.
These LED boards really come into their own during fruiting and flowering, and can reduce flowering times with no reduction in yield due to the additional Far Red spectrum.
Like the High Light “UV” board, the large footprint gives a very even spread of light and excellent heat management, allowing each board to be run at up to 150W without a heatsink, or 225W with a matching heatsink.
The 2:1 ratio means each board can be mounted side-by-side to form a perfect square, or end-to-end for vertical lighting systems (see How Many Boards?).
