These next-generation LED panels have a very high CRI95 and are now available in two colour temperatures: 3100K for fruiting, flowering and general growth; and 3500K for propagation and leafy greens.
Please note: These are individual LED panels that must be wired to a driver and preferably mounted to a heatsink or frame for better heat dissipation. All parts needed can be supplied. Please see our Products Page for the full range.
The latest High Light 420 “Gen2” continues the legacy of the original High Light and High Light 420 LED horticultural lights. Designed and manufactured in Australia, the revised spectra now offer two different options for various plant-growth phases and species.
High Lights have been proven in grow-rooms and greenhouses around the world to boost yields, essential oils and terpenes, and to reduce fruiting and flowering times with the addition of UVA, Violet and higher levels of Far Red light.
Like its predecessor, the High Light 420 “Gen2” continues to offer splash-proofing and plug-and-play convenience with 420 top bin LEDs from LED Teknik – a leading Australian designer of horticultural LEDs – and Nichia Corporation of Japan – manufacturer of the world’s most efficient mid-power and UV LEDs.
The main difference to previous models is the addition of a new and highly efficient Nichia 405nm UVA diode that replaces the 3030 series “PC Blue” 405-420nm diodes, as well as a small bump in Far Red light. The increased UVA is responsible for higher secondary metabolite production (essential oils) with the small increase in Far Red at the other end of the spectrum maintaining speed of growth.
There has also been a big boost in colour rendition to CRI95 – an important consideration for horticulturalists who need to see their plants in “true” lighting conditions to ensure they are not suffering from pests, diseases or nutrient deficiencies. Along with a small improvement in radiometric efficiency (percentage of energy converted to light), there has been a small decrease in umol/j due to the extra UVA (UVA light requires more energy per photon than other colours).
Despite their high efficiency, High Lights sometimes have lower PPFD readings than other LED lights because more than 10% of their light falls outside the traditional PAR range of 400-700nm. This means a 900 PPFD reading under a High Light is over 1000 PFD (photon flux density) when ALL light is taken into account (including UVA and Far Red).
The standard “Gen2” spectrum is 3100K and is designed primarily for flowering of short-day species, however testing has shown improvements throughout all stages of growth due to the higher levels of Red and Far Red light balanced by moderate amounts of Blue, Violet and almost 1% UVA that prevent excessive stretch.
The new 3500K “Gen2” spectrum has additional Blue light for seedlings, clones and leafy green species that may require more compact growth with thicker leaves. In addition, Violet and UVA light stimulate root growth and harden off seedlings destined to be put outside under the sun. Higher levels of Blue light – when coupled with UVA and Violet – have been shown to increase secondary metabolite production at the cost of a small amount of yield, so may be more valuable to growers harvesting plants with essential oils.
Not all LEDs are equal and many do not cover the most important spectral ranges below 450nm (Violet, or near-UV) and above 700nm (Far Red). “True” full spectrum light not only provides better health and vigour, it leads to bigger yields and shorter flowering times with documented increases in terpenes and oils.
The wide light footprint of the High Light 420 “Gen2” provides a uniform plant canopy for even better growth. The 2:1 ratio means boards can be mounted side-by-side to form a perfect square, or end-to-end for rectangular grow areas.
An optional water-resistant clear coating is paired with TE’s SlimSeal connector series for a neat, waterproof wiring solution.

Suggested Drivers
Grow Lights Australia is an official Mean Well reseller and supplies Australian Approved Mean Well drivers with full warranty. Our prices are among the cheapest in Australia. Please Contact Us if you have any questions about drivers.
High Light 420 boards must not be driven higher than 235W each when used with a matching heatsink, or 135-150W each without a heatsink. If you plan to use a driver that can exceed this wattage you must dim it.
