Hang them, tilt them – kills any bar light
Made in Australia
370W = 1.2m x 0.6m area
500W = 1.5m x 0.8m area
Average light spread = 800-1000 PPFD
2x 370W = 1.2m x 1.2m area
2x 500W = 1.5m x 1.5m area
Average light spread = 1100-1200 PPFD
Each High Light 420 “Longboard” comes fully assembled, ready to grow, and replaces up 600-750W of HPS/CMH with the most efficient “true” full spectrum light on the market.
These slim-line fixtures can be hung individually, in pairs, or in rows to cover larger areas. We recommend hanging two Longboards side-by-side in a 1.2m x 1.2m or 1.5m x 1.5m tent to outperform any LED “bar light” by providing a better spectrum and more complete canopy coverage for better yields.
Long-term light testing has shown that most plant canopies are not flat and two-dimensional, but rather staggered and three-dimensional. Longboards are able to deliver better light penetration because they can be hung at different heights to light up shorter and taller plants at the same time. They can also be tilted 10-15 degrees in towards the middle of the canopy to reduce wall losses and provide better side-lighting.
PAR mapping confirms the best use of light in real-world grow rooms is to be able to stagger and tilt the light source – which typical bar designs simply can’t do. In most cases, bar lights can only be hung as low as the tallest plant, and can’t be tilted away from walls towards the middle of the canopy, thus losing efficiency.
Longboards not only provide the most flexible hanging options, they have one of the best plant spectra on the market. Designed and manufactured by Grow Lights Australia and LED Teknik, these quality fixtures have enhanced UVA and Far Red light that have been proven in grow rooms and greenhouses around the world to produce outstanding quality with faster fruiting and flowering times.
Longboards feature the latest High Light 420 “Gen2” LED panels with higher levels of UVA (1%), Violet and Far Red (10%) light, as well as a choice of two colour temperatures: 3100K for fruiting and flowering, and 3500K for propagation and growth.
There is no need for supplementary UV or Far Red lighting, as High Lights provide a complete spectrum on one channel (one driver) with more even coverage due to the evenly spaced diodes. This reduces complexity and cost compared to other LED grow lights.
Each High Light is built with (real) top-bin Japanese Nichia mid-power and UV diodes, and custom LED Teknik 660nm, 730nm and narrow-band phosphor technology paired to genuine Mean Well drivers. Industry-leading efficiency of up to 3 umol/j is the result of high-quality componentry, Australian innovation and years of hands-on research and development.
Quality materials include Italian-made quick-release Techno Connectors and chemical-resistant German LAPP cable with an attractive slim-line profile – all designed and assembled in Australia. The HLG series drivers are mounted remotely to reduce heat, but can be mounted to the heatsinks if required.
All High Light 420 grow lights now ship with fully water-resistant LEDs.
Colour Temperature
3100K is recommended as the best alround spectrum for general growth, fruiting and flowering of most species, including ornamentals, shade plants and tropical varieties. Deep Red and Far Red light are the keys to rapid growth as they enhance the Emerson Effect and produce larger leaves that absorb more light. They also accelerate the fruiting and flowering cycle. The addition of UVA light prevents excessive stretch.
3500K is ideal for propagation and leafy greens where early root development and lush foliage are preferred over maximum growth and flower development. The addition of UVA with higher levels of Blue and reduced Far Red thicken leaves and stems while promoting rapid root striking. Far Red light increases leaf size but also makes leaves thinner, which is not always desirable when growing leafy greens. UVA hardens off seedlings indoors before they go outside under the sun. This spectrum can also be used to enhance essential oil production, where the additional Blue light increases stress-induced secondary metabolites (including cannabinoids and terpenes).
Drivers
High Lights are powered by genuine Mean Well HLG series drivers with seven-year warranties. The drivers are mounted remotely on a 4.5m water-proof cable to reduce heat build-up in the LED panels and grow room (heat reduces LED efficiency).
HLG-320H-48A (370W) – this driver punches well above its weight and delivers 340-350W to the LEDs and pulls around 370W from the wall. These drivers have onboard dimming and are best suited to rectangular grow areas of up to 1.2m 0.6m, or in pairs up to 1.2m x 1.2m (or slightly bigger).
HLG-480H-54A (500W) – this driver represents good value and delivers up to 470W to the LEDs and pulls around 500W from the wall. These drivers also have onboard dimming and are suited to rectangular areas of up to 1.5m x 0.8m, or in pairs up to 1.5m x 1.5m (or slightly bigger).
Dimmers
High Light 420 “Longboard” fixtures can be ordered with Mean Well AB type drivers that have a separate dimmer wire that can be linked to a remote dimmer, central controller or light harvester for full automation. However, for general growing we recommend the cheaper, simpler and waterproof A type drivers that are set up at the Grow Lights Australia factory to delivery full power at all times. These drivers can be dimmed using onboard dimming dials, however most growers tend to “set and forget” once they have their grows dialled in.
